NZ Growing - DTE Reflection

Intro

G'day mates! I am writing a reflection about our project called 'NZ Growing' in DTE. This project took us about 5 weeks to finish, and we have had learned a lot of things through this project. We've been told to get into a group of 3 or 4 and as always. Vince, and Thamhie, and I are in the same group, again! this time, I was the group leader. Next, we've been told to choose a topic to do in 5 weeks time. We chose the topic called 'maintaining Water Supply'

Reflection

Just like I said 'Maintaining Water Supply' is what we are doing. We chose this topic because we were getting heaps of ideas for it, we also think that we can smash this topic really good. Every topic has a challenge you had to do. For our topic, the challenge was to 'create a new way for farmers to quickly identify that there is a problem and locate where it is'.

In our first lesson doing this topic, Mr Carter sent us a video to watch that relates to the topic we chose so we can get an idea of what to make. After that, Mr Carter told us to choose an enablerWe have to choose two enablers to use in what we're going to make. We have to really think about on what we are going to choose because once you've picked it, you can't change it. The two enablers that we chose was 'Nanotechnology' and 'Network and Sensors'.

We picked 'Network and Sensors' because we have to use a sensor for our design to detect a leak. The other thing is, the 'Network' we can use the network to email the farmer when there is a leak detected.
We picked 'Nanotechnology' because it can repair broken stuff and it can make it more durable and stronger.

Once we've picked our two enablers. We had a discussion on what we are going to make. We had so many ideas that we came up, but we only have to choose one. After we had a discussion, we agreed on one design, which is my design. My design is going to be a tube looking with a sensor, network, and a nanotechnology. This tube was going to be installed around the water pipes.

Here is how our design will work. When the sensor detects a leak, it will send a message to the farmer/s that there is a leak on one of the pipes. When the farmer received the message, farmer/s will send the nanotech to fix the broken pipes.

When we had an idea we went to 'Tinkercad' to create our design. It took us about 3-4 weeks to create and finish the design. Here is what our prototype looks like.

This is the prototype that we built in Tinkercad. I know it has heaps of things going on with it, so let me describe it to you. The big orange tube is the water leak detector and the little yellow circle beside it is the sensor. The tube has 2 wires attached to it. These two wires are separated because once it meets each other it will activate the alarm. Electricity moves in water, so when water touches the two wires. The water will connect the two wires and be turning the alarm on.

In the last two weeks, we've been told to make a presentation about our topic. We will be presenting it to the whole class. Thamhie and Vince both did the presentation on 'Prezi' while I make the notes. Mr Carter said that he doesn't want to see a paragraph on the presentation that we're making.

Here is the link to the presentation that we made about our topic. Click Me =D

Questions
What do you think about our prototype? will it help the farmers save water?
