NZ Growing - DTE Reflection

Intro

G'day mates! I am writing a reflection about our project called 'NZ Growing' in DTE. This project took us about 5 weeks to finish, and we have had learned a lot of things through this project. We've been told to get into a group of 3 or 4 and as always. Vince, and Thamhie, and I are in the same group, again! this time, I was the group leader. Next, we've been told to choose a topic to do in 5 weeks time. We chose the topic called 'maintaining Water Supply'

Reflection

Just like I said 'Maintaining Water Supply' is what we are doing. We chose this topic because we were getting heaps of ideas for it, we also think that we can smash this topic really good. Every topic has a challenge you had to do. For our topic, the challenge was to 'create a new way for farmers to quickly identify that there is a problem and locate where it is'.

In our first lesson doing this topic, Mr Carter sent us a video to watch that relates to the topic we chose so we can get an idea of what to make. After that, Mr Carter told us to choose an enablerWe have to choose two enablers to use in what we're going to make. We have to really think about on what we are going to choose because once you've picked it, you can't change it. The two enablers that we chose was 'Nanotechnology' and 'Network and Sensors'.

We picked 'Network and Sensors' because we have to use a sensor for our design to detect a leak. The other thing is, the 'Network' we can use the network to email the farmer when there is a leak detected.
We picked 'Nanotechnology' because it can repair broken stuff and it can make it more durable and stronger.

Once we've picked our two enablers. We had a discussion on what we are going to make. We had so many ideas that we came up, but we only have to choose one. After we had a discussion, we agreed on one design, which is my design. My design is going to be a tube looking with a sensor, network, and a nanotechnology. This tube was going to be installed around the water pipes.

Here is how our design will work. When the sensor detects a leak, it will send a message to the farmer/s that there is a leak on one of the pipes. When the farmer received the message, farmer/s will send the nanotech to fix the broken pipes.

When we had an idea we went to 'Tinkercad' to create our design. It took us about 3-4 weeks to create and finish the design. Here is what our prototype looks like.

This is the prototype that we built in Tinkercad. I know it has heaps of things going on with it, so let me describe it to you. The big orange tube is the water leak detector and the little yellow circle beside it is the sensor. The tube has 2 wires attached to it. These two wires are separated because once it meets each other it will activate the alarm. Electricity moves in water, so when water touches the two wires. The water will connect the two wires and be turning the alarm on.

DLO
In the last two weeks, we've been told to make a presentation about our topic. We will be presenting it to the whole class. Thamhie and Vince both did the presentation on 'Prezi' while I make the notes. Mr Carter said that he doesn't want to see a paragraph on the presentation that we're making.

Here is the link to the presentation that we made about our topic. Click Me =D

Questions
What do you think about our prototype? will it help the farmers save water?

All zoos should be shut down and release all the animals to their natural habitat.

I think zoos should be shut down and should not. That's because some animals in the zoo are powerless and can’t survive by themselves in the wild. Maybe because they are hurt, sick, or just can’t survive without a help. However, capturing animals to put in zoos should be shut down. Because those animals don’t need a help to survive and they are fine living on their own. This is one of the reasons why capturing animals are bad. The animals that have been captured for no reason suicides because they don’t like living in cages and get disturbed by the people visiting. In my opinion, zoos should not be shut down because it’s a really cool place to go because you can see animals you’ve seen in books. It also makes the children happy when they see their favourite animals like Lions, Eagles, Monkeys, and so many more!

Animals aren’t toys!
Hunting animals for sports should be banned this is because animals have feelings too, they aren’t made so we can use them for entertainment, and it’s also an animal abuse.

Hunting animals is cruel and hunting animals to use in sports is even worse because animals have feelings like humans, they have families like humans, and they love humans like we love animals. Animals are just like humans, but they are just in a different form. Hunting them is like us being arrested and put in jail. I mean like, who wants to be in jail? NO ONE! Yeah exactly, no one wants to be imprisoned and get treated terribly. So, for animals, getting hunted is like they are being arrested and put in jail and gets treated horribly. When they get told what to do, and they didn't do it, they will be punished for it. For example, you saw a dog walks like a person, it means, it's owner abuse and hurt the dog to make it walk like a person, and us humans we didn't know what the dog has been true through to entertain us.  So I wonder if people who abuse animals was put to the animals' position and get abuse like what he did. Will he stop abusing animals?

Creative Writing - SOST

My life in London is remarkably awful, horrible, and hard. I can't earn enough money to feed myself, and I always get sick because of the terrible pollution and the lack of clean water. I have to skip eating because I have to save enough money so I can get out of London and move to New Zealand.

I always hated London because it's overpopulated, dirty and there's a lot of diseases. The diseases spread extremely fast because the streets are very dirty and damped. There is also no hospital nearby, so if you are ill, you will surely die. The kids work in the factory at a young age to help their parents. They work for long hours without a wage. I have to live in a house with several families living because I couldn't afford the rent of the house if I'm the only one's going to live in it. Living in a house with many people is very disgusting because you have to use the same water everyone uses to take a bath because it's hard to find enough clean water for everyone.

My journey on the ship was worse than my experience in London. My life on the ship was horrible because I was in the poor section of the ship and it was hot and crowded. I can see people dying directly in front of me, and just by staring at them, I can see that they have been through in a lot of pain.

When I arrived in New Zealand, I was very cheerful that I've made it that far. I can smell the fresh air, and I can see clean running water everywhere. I can earn a lot of money to feed myself, and I can still have enough money to buy the things I want. There is a lot of opportunities and exciting jobs you can get in New Zealand. And the best thing I can get is, I can rent my own house, and I don't have to live with several families. I also don't need to bathe in used water because there's enough clean water for the people to take a bath.

Since I have moved to New Zealand, my life has never been better like my life right, now and it's still getting better and better. I already have forgotten my past, and I don't want to think about it anymore. I hope that every people in London have the same life as me because they also deserve to have a better life and experience I am experiencing now.

How to use a Lathe

Today we've been introduced in Lathe. A lathe is a tool that rotates the material about an axis rotation to do multiple procedures such as cutting, sanding, drilling and turning with tools that are applied to the workpiece to create an object with symmetry about that axis.

How to set up a lathe:

  1. Slide the live centre in the headstock and the centre in the tailstock.
  2. Put a guide bar in between the two centres.
  3. Put the dial indicator on the stand, and then put the stand on the carriage.
  4. Apply pressure towards the bar with the dial indicator
  5. Once the pressure is applied, move the carriage along the bar. (The gauge should not move, and if it didn't move, it means it's balanced.
  6. Slide the chuck on the head and turn the screw clockwise on the head until it's tight.
  7. Turn the chuck by your hand to check that everything is snug.
  8. put the tool bit on the tool post.
  9. Align the tool with the dead centre, and then put the material in the chuck.
  10. And that's it, you're done!
Safety around using a Lathe:
  • Wear safety glasses
  • Don't wear any jewellery because it might get caught on the lathe
  • Make sure that everything is snug
  • Make sure the floor is free and nothing can trip you
  • Never put your hand near the lathe when it's turned on

Here is a video on 'how to set up a tool on the lathe'.

HHS amazing art work went missing!!

HHS amazing artwork went missing!

Description of the artwork:

Lindley was the person presented on the artwork.
The artwork was printed on A4 paper and the print is a little bit smaller than A4.
The face almost covered the whole print and the face is leaning in the left.
The expression on the face is serious.
The portrait has been composed as an open cropped head.
The eyelid has a cross-hatching pattern and the side of the face has different thickness of lines the eyebrow is a little bit thick. There's also line patterns on the chick.
The hair has a lighter tone because there's a lot of lines presented on the part.

The tone of the print is darker on the bottom and lighter on the top because there's a lot of cuts around the top part and few on the bottom. There's a lot of patterns going on the top part.

Wind Racers Experiment

Aim: Is to build a design that will travel the furthest.

Equipment:
- trolley
-cardboard
- tale
- paper
- string
- scissors

Method:
My plan is to start making all the elements I need to create this project. I will start a part of the cardboard that will be rolled up like a tube taped.  It will then taped to the trolley and just to secure it a bit more a string will be running from the top and around the trolley. Then a semi-circle will be formed of the cardboard to tape the top of the paper mast to it. Two holes will be penetrated into the middle of the hole. If possible make another stabilizer with the cardboard for the bottom.

Results:

Our wind racer went a distance of 11 meters in a time of 25 seconds. Using the formula of speed=distance/time I can calculate the speed of my wind racer

v = d/t
   =11 / 25
   = 0.44

"Mobile phones control people’s lives"

Most people rely on their mobile phones these days because they can do a lot of things that can make your life easier, but they can also be a dangerous thing. Mobile phones are really popular these modern days because they are easy to use and really affordable. Nevertheless, mobile phones can be a truly dangerous thing because when you focus too much on your phone, you’re not realising that it's slowly harming your body, and sometimes it can also kill people. For example, you are using your phone while charging and you didn’t realise that it’s overheating, and then it suddenly explode right into your face. All that things can happen at an unexpected time and unexpected places, so, be really careful with your phones. Mobile phones can be really helpful, but if you get obsessed with it; it can change your life, forever!

School is the best place to make mistakes

School is the best place to make mistakes

School is the best place to make mistakes because you are learning and it’s normal to do things incorrectly the first time. A few reasons I have are that you will learn from your mistakes because when you make a mistake there’s got to be a way to solve it, you just need to figure it out what is it or how to make your mistake right. You come to school to learn new things and learning new things is not easy. Of course, you won’t get things right for the first time unless you’re a smart ass and won't get a single one wrong. Its free to ask the teachers for help if you're struggling, they are there to help students when help is needed.
