Art Internal 1.2

My Why
x

My why is simply connected to my personal feelings and experiences. In my opinion, when you create something that you're passionate about (even if it's terrible) it could end up being your masterpiece. How I portray my feelings using art is by simply connecting it to something similar. In this case, death and rebirth. I chose this because, throughout the year I've been into a serious problem, a family problem. The feeling of having no one there to save you from the problems that are slowly consuming you can be really hard. When you reach the point where you don't want to exist anymore. Sometimes when you have a problem and you let it spread, it could really be hard to stop from spreading because it's already consumed you. It already messed up your life. It’s like a nuclear bomb when it explodes, it spreads for miles and destroys everything in its path. That is basically why I chose 'death'. Every terrible problem always has an ending and to reach that ending, you have to accept and face through the problem. That’s why I also chose ‘rebirth’. I chose rebirth because I feel like a new person after I accepted what has happened. People say that we should leave our past behind and keep moving on. For me, I used my past as a source of strength. Nature tearing bad things apart to start over again is like having someone helping you ease the pain and to stand back up again.

The Kea

The Kea

My ESOL class and I went on a trip to Willowbank Zoo to see and learn things about the New Zealand native bird 'Kea'.

Kea is one of New Zealand native birds and they are known to be endangered. Keas are big birds that have dark green outer feathers and underneath their wings, there are bright orange feathers. Keas also have long curvey beak and long sharp toes.

Keas behaviour is really interesting, some of the keas are shy and some are aggressive. Keas also like to steal or take shiny objects from tourists. Keas is known to be the world's smartest birds, they are smart as monkeys. However, keas can't talk like other parrots.

In the wild, keas normally live high up the mountains. During summertime, keas live on top of the hills and in winter, they will go down to villages to hibernate and lay eggs. Nowadays, most keas live in captivity to control their population.

Keas nest on the ground and not in trees or on the tree branches. Female keas spend 21 to 25 weeks incubating the eggs while the male hunt for food. Keas breeding season usually starts in July and until January.

Perks of being a wallflower - Close Viewing

THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER - CLOSE VIEWING

Q1  What is one important lesson/moral of this story? How do we see this in the film?
  • There are people who will influence you for either for the good or for the bad.
  • Surround yourself with friends that can change you in a good way.
  • There are people who will help you through the hard times as Charlie experienced.
  • Make sure that you know who you’re friends with

Q2 What is one event we see in the film that changes Charlie’s life forever? Why did you pick this event as a significant turning point for him?
  • Meeting Patrick. Patrick served as the introduction of an extroverted life. This also introduced Charlie in drugs, sex, and many more.
  • When Charlie rode with Sam and Charlie in their trucks and went out of the truck while the tunnel song was playing. He said that he felt that he belonged somewhere when that happened.
  • Meeting both Sam and Patrick. He stepped out of his comfort zone when he met his new friends and started having conversations with some people.
Q3 Until the very end of the film, Charlie thought his Aunt Helen was one of his favourite people in the world. Why would he feel something like that, and why doesn’t he remember what she did to him?
  • Most probably, Charlie was traumatised because of the incident. Aunt Helen might have manipulated him in a cognitive way that caused him to lose his memories about what happened.
  • Charlie thought about this and felt that way because he was definitely traumatised and he’s trying to forget that it happened.
  • Aunt Helen is one of the people who were close to Charlie. Well, their relationship began to extend or expand that it not that normal anymore. The things that Charlie experienced when Aunt Helen is alive is still a nightmare for him.
  • He didn’t remember what his aunt Helen did to him because he was still young.
Q4 Stephen Chbosky (author/director) said he wanted to present a story in which there were no bad characters. Was he successful? Were there any bad characters? Justify your answer.
  • Somewhere in between, she was successful to give Charlie a full turn of events in his life but somehow it is still a bad influence.
  • They kind of did but kind of did not. Particularly with Aunt Helen, the movie only showed some parts about Aunt Helen and they didn’t explain why she did that to Charlie. There are might be other reasons like in the past that had happened to Aunt Helen.
  • I think that he is successful on some of the characters but not all of them. Some of the authors are bad for no reason but other characters are bad but they also show a good or soft side in the movie.
  • I think she was successful in making the characters because all the character did a pretty good job.

  • The benefits of inclusivity
  • The importance of participating in life
  • The importance of love, friendship and family
The benefits of inclusivity.
  • An introverted person can see lots of things in his own perspective, but only on his OWN point of view. Some things should be seen in two or more perspectives, inclusivity may change the views of a certain person on how they see a topic or a subject.
  • In the film, the benefits of inclusivity for Charlie was he felt that he belonged to the group.

The importance of participating in life.
  • No man is an island, and there is more than what you currently have and see in life.
  • The importance of participating in life like shown in the film is it gives us the thought that we’re not alone in life.

The importance of love, friendship, and family.
  • Love, friendship, and family are the things that mould a person. This can improve the character’s personality and perspectives.
  • Love, friendship, and family makes the person whole
  • Love, friendship, and family are really important because these things are the foundation of a person.

  • How is sex portrayed in the film? What is Charlie’s perspective?
  • How are drugs & alcohol portrayed in the film?
  • It was portrayed as a food
  • Does Charlie react appropriately when Patrick kisses him? Why or why not?
  • Who is your favourite character? Why?
  • Patrick. He’s your typical senior everyone would love to get along.
  • Who is your least favourite character? (Not Aunt Helen). Why?
  • Mary Elizabeth, She’s the epitome

  • Now is your chance to be critical. What did the movie NOT do well? How could it be improved?

ESOL Goals

My goals in ESOL this year is to expand my thinking skills so I can write more and better.
I also want to get as much credit as possible in ESOL so I don't have to be hard in my other subject.

Creative Writing

New York City, New York
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

" I live in New York, and I was thinking about the lagoon in the Central Park, down near Central Park South. I was wondering if it would be frozen over when I got home, and if it was, where did the ducks go? I was wondering where the ducks went when the lagoon got all icy and frozen over. I wonder if some guy came in a truck and took them away to a zoo or something. or if they just flew away"

After a few days, the lagoon is still frozen, I was walking past the lagoon and then I got shook when I saw a group of ducks walking on the snow. So I stopped for a moment and think "If the ducks were taken by someone, then why are there some left?"  So maybe the ducks just hid somewhere warm

Similes and Metaphors in songs

 When we were young

Everybody loves the things you do                            Metaphors = Blue
From the way you talk                                                  Similes      =  Red
To the way you move
Everybody here is watching you
'Cause you feel like home
You're like a dream come true

But if by chance you're here alone
Can I have a moment
Before I go?
'Cause I've been by myself all night long
Hoping you're someone I used to know
You look like a movie
You sound like a song

My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song
I was so scared to face my fears
Nobody told me that you'd be here
And I swear you moved overseas
That's what you said, when you left me
You still look like a movie
You still sound like a song

My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
It's hard to admit that
Everything just takes me back
To when you were there
To when you were there
And a part of me keeps holding on
Just in case it hasn't gone
I guess I still care
Do you still care?
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song

My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
Oh, I'm so mad I'm getting old
It makes me reckless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song

 By Chance

Hi
Girl you just caught my eye
thought I should give it try
and get your name & your number
go grab some lunch & eat cucumbers
Why did I say that?
I don't know why.
But you're smilin' & it's something' i like
on your face, yeah it suits you
girl we connect like we have bluetooth
I don't know why
I'm drawn to you
Could you be the other one so we'd equal two?
and this is all based on a lucky chance
that you would rather add then subtract
You & I
could be like sonny & cher
honey & bears
You & I
could be like aladdin & jasmine
lets make it happen
La La La La
La La La La
La La La La
La La La La
Hey
How've you been?
I know that it's been awhile.
Are you tired cause you've been on my mind
runnin' thousand & thousands of miles

Sorry, I know that line's outta style
but you
you look so beautiful on this starry night
loving the way the moonlight catches your eyes & your smile
i'm captivated
your beauty is timeless never outdated
i don't know why
I'm drawn to you
Could you be the other one so we'd equal two?
and this is all based on a lucky chance
that you would rather add then subtract
You & I
could be like sonny & cher
honey & bears
You & I
could be like aladdin & jasmine

lets make it happen
babe its been 5 years since that special day
when I asked you on our first date
i guess it's safe to say
You & I
Are better than sonny & cher
honey & bears
You & I
Are better than aladdin & jasmine
We made it happen
Singin-
La La La La
La La La La
La La La La
La La La La
Let me say
